Applications and nominations for Pro-Vice-Chancellor position welcome

13 January, 2023

UNIVERSITY MANAGEMENT. Interested parties can now apply for the position of Pro-Vice-Chancellor at University of Gothenburg. It is also possible to nominate candidates.

The university is seeking a Pro-Vice-Chancellor for the term of office starting 1 July 2023. The Pro-Vice-Chancellor is the Vice-Chancellor’s deputy and should complement the Vice-Chancellor. With the vision A University for the World as the starting point, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor will assist the Vice-Chancellor in developing and further strengthening the university.

According to the requirement profile decided by the University Board, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor should among other things be experienced in running, leading and developing teaching and research of high quality, and be an experienced academic leader. Furthermore, this person should foster collegial processes, academic freedom, as well as staff and student influence, and be discerning, structured and persistent.

Individuals who are qualified for appointments as professor or senior lecturer are qualified to be Pro-Vice-Chancellor.

Apply and nominate until 9 February

The call for applications is now published in the university’s recruitment portal and interested parties can apply until 9 February.

It is also possible for students and staff to nominate candidates. This is done by contacting the recruitment committee secretary Jan Lif by email: jan.lif@gu.se, or phone: 076 618 58 48. The last day to nominate is 9 February.

If you wish to nominate a suitable Pro-Vice-Chancellor candidate, you do not need to write a justification or check if the person is interested in the position. It is enough to communicate who you want to see as Pro-Vice-Chancellor. The secretary of the recruitment committee then contacts the nominated candidates and asks those who are interested to submit their CV and a personal letter to the recruitment committee.

”When we asked for Vice-Chancellor nominations, we received as many as 70 in total. We’re hoping for the same level of interest now that we’re seeking the University of Gothenburg’s future Pro-Vice-Chancellor,” says Peter Larsson, Chair of the Board and the person leading the group working with the recruitment.

The process to recruit a new Pro-Vice-Chancellor

During the recruitment process, Chair of the Board Peter Larsson will have continuous contact with the future Vice-Chancellor and with the presidium of the consultative assembly.

A list of the candidates interested in the position will be compiled and communicated at the end of February. Interviews and reference checks of candidates will be carried out during March. At the end of April, the University Board decides which candidate or candidates will be interviewed by the consultative assembly.

The consultative assembly, which is advisory to the Board, will meet on 23 May. On 14 June, the University Board will decide who will be the next Pro-Vice-Chancellor. The appointed person will take office at the same time as the Vice-Chancellor on 1 July 2023.
