Sahlgrenska Academy’s latest Distinguished University Teachers

16 November, 2022

TEACHING EXPERTISE. Congratulations to Lars Börjesson, Tove Edmar Lagerberg, and Ingrid Henriksson, who have all been named Distinguished University Teachers in 2022.

The University of Gothenburg introduced the title of Distinguished University Teacher to draw attention to teaching expertise. Anyone who has a permanent position as a teacher at the University can apply to be considered for the title. To date, Sahlgrenska Academy has appointed a total of 22 Distinguished University Teachers.

Teaching in the medical care system

Lars Börjesson

Lars Börjesson is a professor of surgery and teaches the subject in the eighth semester of the Medical Program. For the new Medical Program, he is the semester coordinator for the eleventh semester. He also has assignments as chair of the Medical Program Committee.

For the last year, the Medical Program has led to a medical license, and the program now includes significantly more clinical training. This is why Lars Börjesson would particularly like to emphasize the importance of interaction with the medical care system: “The medical care system is facing a difficult work situation, and supervision of students takes time and dedication. The Medical Program is large, covering this region and into the Halland region. Ensuring that all students receive equivalent instruction poses a challenge.”

What does the appointment as a Distinguished University Teacher mean for you?

“An opportunity to have my educational credentials valued in terms of scope, quality, and breadth. I see it as having passed a type of ‘product declaration,’ because educational credentials are assessed very carefully within the current process.”

More diverse recruitment

Tove Edmar Lagerberg

Tove Edmar Lagerberg is a senior lecturer of speech therapy. Until this summer, she was the program director for the Speech and Language Therapy Program, where she is now responsible for the professional courses in the program and provides instruction about stuttering.

“Like any other academic programs, we need to be able to encourage more diverse student body, among other things so that our professional body reflects society. It is something that I would love to work on more.”

What does the appointment as a Distinguished University Teacher mean for you?

“I have had to describe everything I have done over the 20 years I have been employed at the University of Gothenburg and have realized I how pleased I am with a lot of it. Somehow it feels good to be able to look back like this. I also hope to have the opportunity to participate and work with teaching and learning more broadly, perhaps in other courses, and to discuss our work in the professional courses with teachers in other programs.”

Happy and proud

Ingrid Henriksson

Ingrid Henriksson is also a senior lecturer of speech therapy, teaching courses within the Speech and Language Therapy Program. She chairs the Education Committee for audiology and speech therapy and is a member of the Education Council, where she is also part of the Budget Group.

“The training needs to reflect the massive leaps in knowledge while adapting to the needs of society. We do this through a close connection to research, good collegially cooperation, good educational approaches, and regular discussions with stakeholders.”

What does the appointment as a Distinguished University Teacher mean for you?

“I’m both happy and proud of the appointment.”
