Sahlgrenska Life: The Västra Götaland Region’s Board decided on preparatory work in the hospital area

The decision that the Regional Board recently made means a go-ahead to start the demolition of existing buildings, , among other things, in order to enable construction of building 1, which will be on the Sahlgrenska University Hospital’s side of Per Dubbsgatan.

Prior to demolition, a number of other preparations are needed. A new temporary ambulance hall and new culvert will be built. Wires need to be re-routed. In addition, the teams that are currently located in buildings that are to be demolished need new premises. Preparations in the hospital area are planned to start at the beginning of autumn in 2022.

Preparatory work and demolition will eventually also take place on Medicinareberget further ahead, where building 3 will be built next to Per Dubbsgatan.

Open house September 30 – unique opportunity to see Natrium from the inside

The construction project invites staff and students at the Faculty of Science and Sahlgrenska Academy on September 30 in the afternoon. With less than a year left until moving in, parts of the house will then resemble the finished environments. During the guided tour, you get to experience the house from the inside and see different types of premises in certain parts of the building.

As the building is still a construction site at the time of the open house, guides will take groups of approximately 10 people on a tour, starting from the new restaurant, Salt & syra and ending there with coffee.

More information about details will come in the newsletter in August and in the event calendar on Akademiliv. You can already now make a note of the event in your Outlook calendar.

At the construction site

The project will close for holidays week 29-30, but apart from that, construction is ongoing as usual.

The scaffolding below the ramp, at the loading dock between the pharmacology building and Medicinarelängan, will be demolished on Monday 27 June. In the coming days, a new staircase will be installed to enable evacuation from the auditorium.

Between Natrium and the Medkemi buildingis an oak tree is regularly inspected by an arborist and watered with 3 cubic metres weekly.

On the terraces between Natrium and Medicinarelängan, plants will be planted and later also on the side toward EBM.

With just over a year left, work is underway to complete Natrium on the inside. The remaining construction activities will have very limited effect on the nearby operations. Therefore, the reporting on Natrium in this newsletter will only take place on special occasions, when there is relevant information to be spread.

The Faculty of Science will take over the building on 9 August next year. The move-in will take a couple of weeks, starting immediately after.
