Sahlgrenska Life – architects presented design concept

Architects from Sweco and Arkitema presented their design concept to representatives from Sahlgrenska Academy and Sahlgrenska University Hospital on May 18. The presentation was followed by a joint workshop.

The facades of buildings 2 and 3 are characterized by straight lines with its sheet metal with intermediate sections of reddish-brown brick, which is a common material used in older buildings in the area.

The interior is designed with people’s well-being in mind. This applies to those who have their daily workplace or study environment there and temporary visitors. Access to daylight is fundamental for well-being. The light courtyard in building 2 is a way to let in more daylight and building 3 has also been supplemented with light courtyards adjacent to the facades.

On each floor, permanent workplaces are planned in rooms closest to the facade, while support functions such as storage, toilets and meeting rooms are placed in the middle of the building.  This way, daylight is available for as many as possible.

The architects also talked about how the selected material and color scheme can contribute to the experience. With inspiration from both nature and the surroundings, an embracing and safe feeling is created. Material with structure is interspersed with smooth reflective surfaces and when straight lines and round shapes meet, exciting contrasts are created.

The architects will now take the outcome from the workshop and continue to work with a developed design concept. In the next project phase.

Medicinarelängan

Work in Medicinarelängan is in its final stages and tests of various systems are underway. Outside the new entrance, the earthworks are complete, except a spot where a work of art is to be installed a further ahead.

New restuarant – welcome to ‘Salt & syra’ (Salt & acid/sour) in August

Now it is official who will run the new restaurant Salt & syra in Medicinarelängan. Akademiska Hus has decided to give the assignment to Högskolerestauranger.

“We really look forward to meeting students and staff at the University of Gothenburg and hope that we together can create a comfortable meeting place where we offer a pleasant experience. We will offer a tasty lunch with a focus on sustainability and health. Our café selection is modern and varies throughout the day”, says Högskolerestauranger.

The restaurant opens on 15 August, and at the start the opening hours will be Monday to Friday 8.00 to 15.00 and lunch service between 11.00-14.00. In addition, Högskolerestauranger will make vending machines available, with a wide product offer

Högskolerestauranger started in 1970 at Stockholm University by Stockholm University’s student union. Over the years, more student unions and universities have been co-owners, but since July 2019 they are 100% owned by Nordrest. They currently run about 40 lunch restaurants, cafés, shops and extensive catering operations at universities in Gävle, Uppsala, Stockholm, Huddinge, Örebro, Västerås, Eskilstuna, Linköping, Växjö and Karlskrona.
