Sahlgrenska Life – an investment in future healthcare, research and innovation
The current phase of the construction project for buildings 2 and 3 is expected to be completed in June according to schedule. In this part of the work, the Sahlgrenska Academy institutes collaborate closely with construction projects and architects to create premises that will support the activities to be conducted there in the future.
In parallel, budget work regarding the university’s investments in furnishings and equipment is ongoing.
In May, a workshop will be held for the concerned representatives from the university, the Sahlgrenska University Hospital and the public dental care, Folktandvården, in which the architects will present their ideas for how the future environments should be designed.
Medicinarelängan
The walkway along Medicinaregatan has been closed for a while as paving is in progress to restore the surface.
On the right hand side of the entrance – seen from the outside – the ground is being prepared for a piece of art.
During May, a new wall will be put up as protection between Medicinarelängan and Natrium.
Natrium – new premises for the Faculty of Science
SEVERAL ASPECTS OF SUSTAINABILITY WHEN NATRIUM IS TO BE FURNISHED
The plan for furniture in Natrium is beginning to be finalised. The offices will be given new desks with a shared design. The same is true for office storage furniture. Shelves and drawer units are no longer as important. New lab furnishings will also be purchased. Some meeting rooms, student areas and group rooms in Natrium, however, may be considered for reused furniture.
Recent years have seen improved opportunities for creating circular flows for furniture and furnishings by new framework agreements. There are now multiple large and knowledgeable suppliers that can handle larger volumes. Cleaning, renovating and valuing furniture ahead of their sale is now easier and so is purchasing of used furnishings.
For furniture that is not in good enough condition for reuse, the first course of action is to sort for recycling and proper disposal of the material. And sometimes certain materials should be removed from the flow and not reused for climate reasons.
But sustainability is a principle that can also be applied to the purchase of new furniture, by prioritising high quality so items can remain in circular use in the future.
