Dentistry ranks high – Medicine and Nursing are rising

6 April, 2022

RANKING. The University of Gothenburg remains an international frontrunner in the subject of Dentistry. For two other subjects, Medicine and Nursing, GU has improved its ranking. These are a few of the results in this year’s QS World University Rankings by Subject.

The QS World University Rankings are among the world’s best-known rankings of higher education institutions (HEIs). Others are the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), also known as the Shanghai list, the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Ranking and Best Global Universities from U.S. News & World Report.

The QS World University Rankings are produced annually by the analytics company QS. Overall, the University of Gothenburg (GU) has taken 180th place in the company’s HEI rankings for 2022, against 202nd in the previous year and 256th in the one before that.

Into the top 100

Now that this year’s subject rankings have been published, the University of Gothenburg has climbed and entered the top 100 lists in two areas: Medicine and Nursing. The University’s current position for Medicine is 99, compared with 118 the year before. The subject of Nursing is in the range 51-100, also an upturn from the 2021 ranking in the range 101-150. For nursing, exact position are only stated up to place 50.

In Dentistry, the University of Gothenburg has achieved an excellent QS ranking — in the top ten internationally — before. Last year, the University took the very top place in the subject, and this year it has come fourth.

Citations and reputation

In the current subject ranking, the measurements are based on academic citations, academic reputation and employers’ assessments, based on surveys conducted by the analytics company.
