INTENSIVE REVIEW WORK FOR THE INSTITUTES

This winter, an intense work to complete the room function descriptions for space in builiding 2 and 3 to be rented by the university has kept the institutes’ representatives busy. In a short time, the institutes have gone from rough block layouts to detailed descriptions.

Currently institutes are in the process of reviewing the room function descriptions and the target is to complete those within the planned time frame.

New restaurant in Medicinarelängan

THEIR MISSION: PROPOSING A NAME FOR THE NEW RESTAURANT

A diverse crowd of creative people – a good description of the working group that has been commissioned to come up with a joint name proposal for the new restaurant. The group consists of students, doctoral students and staff from both the Sahlgrenska Academy and the Faculty of Science, who will join forces with Akademiska Hus and Campus Service.

Their work starts in April and should be ready before the summer with a joint proposal to present to the Campus Council for decision. A similar work process was tried out by the Faculty of Science when Natrium was named.

The restaurant is currently being equipped and furniture has been purchased. Akademiska Hus is in the process of finding a restaurateur who is interested in running the restaurant. The tender period expires in April and shortly after the tenders received will be reviewed.

In direct connection to the restaurant, the students will be able to heat their food in the new kitchenette and then take a seat in the restaurant, which will serve as an additional meeting place for everyone working of studying in Medicinarelängan. At the start of the autumn term later this year, we can expect the smell of food and coffee there. A year later, Natrium opens and then the restaurant becomes a place for food, coffee and studies also for the science students.

The group consists of:

  • Emmanuel Berlin, PhD student, Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology
  • Helen Easterling, Communicator, Sahlgrenska Academy and the Faculty of Science
  • Greger Hammarin, PhD student, Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology
  • Olga Kourtchenko, 1st Research Engineer, Department of Marine Sciences
  • Erik Lekholm, Professor, Institute of Biomedicine
  • Marianne Lextorp, Campus Manager
  • Linnéa Magnusson, Communicator, Faculty of Science
  • Anna Melin, Deputy Property Manager, Akademiska Hus
  • Erik Påhlsson, Research Advisor, Sahlgrenska Academy
  • Sana Rauf, Student, Sahlgrenska Academy
  • Nina Raun, Communicator, Institute of Medicine
  • Tony Wolf, Property Manager, Akademiska Hus
  • Göta studentkår, the science students’ section, has been offered to participate but has currently no representative in the group.

Level by level, interior walls for offices, labs and meeting rooms are put in place.

Natrium – new premises for the Faculty of Science

NATRIUM TO BE READY FOR OCCUPANCY AFTER AUGUST 9, 2023

Akademiska Hus recently announced that access to Natrium can take place on the 9th of August 2023. This means that the construction project is on schedule and that teaching will be able to start in the new premises in the autumn term of 2023.

Mats Lilja

“Akademiska Hus and Skanska have made good progress in the construction project despite the difficult conditions that the pandemic has caused, and we are pleased that the faculty will be able to move in before the start of the autumn term. The moves are starting immediately after 9 August and are estimated to take in total three to four work weeks”, says Mats Lilja, the university’s project manager.

FILM: SEE NATRIUM FROM THE INSIDE

Join a tour inside Natrium and see how far the work has come. In the film, Johan Höjesjö, internal project manager for the faculty, talks about his vision for a day in Natrium in terms of his work as a researcher and teacher.

Also participating in the film is Mats Lilja, the university’s project manager, who talks about how the building has been designed for the best possible support to future activities, meanwhile complying to current technical requirements and sustainability goals.

With facades and roofs in place, it is no longer possible to follow the construction from the outside. On the inside, however, the level of activity is high and some hundred construction workers are in full swing to complete the building for occupancy in August 2023.

Swedish subtitles are available. Link to the film on GU Play

IN MEDICINARELÄNGAN

The temporary wall facing Natrium has now been removed and replaced by a construction fence that will stay until the opening of the restaurant. During the period, the floor inside Medicinarelängan will be plastered and the work with the ceilings will be carried out on the entrance level as well as the lower level. Earth work is being carried out outside the new entrance at Medicinaregatan 7B and the area to the right of the entrance is being prepared for a future work of art.

AT THE CONSTRUCTION SITE

During the period, work is carried out on the surface between the rock wall and Natrium, to adjust the ground is to the correct height.

The construction lifts on the building 1, toward EBM, has been removed and the facade is thereby completed on that part. The windows are being checked and adjusted.
