INTERACTION. Anders Rosengren participated in the Swedish Riksdag’s Research Day on February 24 to discuss how we can better treat and prevent lifestyle diseases such as type II diabetes. He was invited by the Riksdag’s Committee on Health and Welfare and participated in one of the parallel seminars.
Anders Rosengren’s lecture addressed the general state of research surrounding the importance of lifestyle habits for the major common diseases, his own research, and regional and national collaborations. “It was very interesting to participate, and I was overwhelmed by the clear enthusiasm from the members on these issues – they were particularly interested in our collaboration methods.”
Rosengren and his research team collaborate with Swedeheart to provide access to the lifestyle tool for cardiac rehabilitation after an initial heart attack and with Region Skåne as part of their health consultations for all 40, 50 and 60-year-olds. They also collaborate with several Swedish organizations and municipalities, whose employees and members participate in the research team’s studies to connect the community closer to the research.
“The third task involves not just providing information but also getting society involved in research. The questions during the Q&A session were primarily about how we can reach vulnerable groups. Naturally, this is something we’ve given a great deal of thought to, but my takeaway from the members is that this is an area for even more focus in my research. I emphasized the importance of them investing more resources in preventive research and preventive health initiatives.”
For the Swedish Parliament’s Research Day, members of the Riksdag and researchers gather to discuss the role of science in policy and decision-making, among other things. It was held for the second time on February 24, 2022. The Speaker hosted a shared and open seminar on the role of science in policy and decision-making.
