Institutes can through Sahlgrenska Academy’s Research Support nominate candidates for the Bjarne Ahlström Memorial award 2022 in the field of:
Clinical Neurology – especially inflammatory mechanisms that affect central or peripheral nervous system functions
The award of SEK 1 million consists of a personal award of SEK 50,000. The rest of the award is for research and has to be managed by a Swedish university.
Eligible for nomination are those who have defended submitted their doctoral thesis after January 1st 2013 and are conducting successful research (PI for grants) with international impact in the subject area (good publications).
Selection criteria is research excellence, such as international impact, clinical relevance in an issue with a defined patient group in mind, regardless of whether the research takes place within basic mechanisms, prevention or clinical intervention. The winner is expected to submit a report on the use of the grant within 24 months of receipt.
Institutes must submit their nominations to Sahlgrenska Academy no later than Wednesday 16th March by e-mail to applications@sahlgrenska.gu.se with the following:
- CV (max 2 pages)
- five most important scientific publications with the nominee as author, of which at least two should be with the nominee as lead author
- ongoing funding with nominee as PI (year granted, number of years, total amount)
- research focus (2-3 sentences)
- motivation for nomination (maximum 150 words) signed by Head of Institute
Sahlgrenska Academy will then nominate four researchers to the Bjarne Ahlström award. The foundation then invites the most prominent among the nominees to submit a complete application to the foundation’s scientific committee. The prize will be awarded in the autumn of 2022.
