Researchers’ Manifestation against Aliens Act – Gothenburg

Manifestation organised for PhD students and Researchers at the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers Universiyt of Technology, against the changes in the permanent residency law.

The 2021 changes to the Aliens Act (utlänningslagen) and its interpretation by the Migration Agency (migrationsverket) have made it very difficult for foreign researchers to gain residency permits after completing research/PhD in Sweden. Besides unfairly damaging the lives, careers and future of these people, this is disastrous for Sweden’s research and industry, which benefits greatly from the international exchange of research, ideas and competence. This peaceful manifestation is a way of letting all those who are affected or outraged by the changes make a public statement and stand together in solidarity. It is formally organised by the PhD student guild at Chalmers (DS) and the University of Gothenburg Doctoral Committee (GUDK), but we hope it to be a democratic gathering of PhD and master students, researchers and others.
