MISSION. The three newly appointed teacher representatives on the University Board has now had their first introductory meeting, marking the start of term of office for Helle Wijk, professor of nursing at Sahaclgrenska Academy.
In addition to Helle Wijk, Olof Johansson Stenman and Gustaf Kastberg Weichselberger are also appointed to represent the university’s teachers on the board. As the university’s highest decision-making body, the board handles many issues that are important for the university’s development and position, both nationally and internationally, Helle Wijk states:
”I see it as a very urgent and responsible assignment and am honored with the trust”, she says and continues:
”We are three teacher representatives on the board. During this period, from Sahlgrenska Academy, School of Business and School of Public Administration, but our role is to represent the teaching perspective in general, which is a challenge in itself given the many departments, institutes and faculties that the university comprises. But many issues are common when it comes to research and education, the university’s contribution to societal development and internal issues concerning organization, governance and the work environment.”
Helle Wijk has previous experience of working with initiatives that promote and drive the development of complete academic environments in the interaction between research, education and the surrounding society. An experience that she believes can be valuable in board work.
Which questions do you think are most important to follow, and why are they important?
”An important issue is the university’s collaboration with other universities, society and the business community for several reasons, not least in terms of being an attractive work environment that stimulates cross-border research, education and development collaborations. Then we have an upcoming principal election which is an important strategic issue for universities that need to take a place in terms of both time and resources.”
