Sahlgrenska Life

The City of Gothenburg has taken one more step towards an approved detail plan

The matter has now been approved by the Gothenburg Municipal Board, in accordance with the city management office’s proposal. The next step in the approal process is for the matter to be taken up in the municipal council.

The Sahlgrenska Life project aims to strengthen collaboration between healthcare, research, education and business. The detailed plan is a prerequisite for new construction to take place in connection with Sahlgrenska University Hospital’s (SU) main entrance and the University of Gothenburg’s premises on Medicinareberget.

The detailed plan also affects public transport, where improvements are planned by moving the bus stop at the hospital area.

Read more about the detailed planning process for the project on the City of Gothenburg’s website (in Swedish).

Campus development – multi-purpose lecture hall soon ready to use

During the year, the lecture hall Tor Bjurström was converted into a multi-purpose hall to be used for different purposes and not just for traditional lectures. The hall is furnished to facilitate teamwork and is equipped with modern AV technology.

During week 37, the hall is furnished and new doors are fitted.

Programming of the AV equipment in the hall is ongoing in parallel and is expected to be completed by week 38, after which teachers can be trained.

The hall is located inside the entrance at Medicinaregatan 3B.

Natrium – new building for the Faculty of Science

In Medicinarelängan

Up on the roof of Medicinarelängan, where the reconstruction is ongoing, a real facelift is underway as the old metal roof is replaced with a new one. This work stretches into the autumn.

On the outside of Medicinarelängan, you can see the new entrance on Medicinaregatan 7B emerging. Concrete and forging work is taking place there during the period and the goal is to have a tight roof on the main entrance before winter comes.

Inside Medicinarelängan, behind the temporary wall, plenty of activities are ongoing, such as construction of interior walls, installation work of different kinds and surface layers.

At the construction site

The end of the summer season has delivered favourable weather for construction and the project grows significantly in terms of new contractors and project members.

The superstructure erection is proceeding according to plan on building two, close to Nya Forsken, where the goal is to reach the top at the end of November. For building one it is mainly a matter of putting walls up to get on with the weather-sensitive work in the interior.

With the help of a mobile tower crane, facade modules of glass and sheet metal is installed during September. The crane is also used for lifting material to the roof.

Up on the roof, work is underway with insulation and waterproofing, an activity very dependent on the weather conditions.

Externally, construction is underway on the so-called link building that connects Natrium with Medicinarelängan. Also here, facade and roof work takes place during September and October.
