Joost Algera, PhD student in the Department of Molecular and Clinical Medicine, won the Young Investigator Award and the Best Abstract Award in Translational Science at NeuroGASTRO2021, which was held digitally in early September. The award-winning abstract was about a study with a small group of IBS patients, which showed that those who were most helped by a gluten-free diet had a different microbiota than those who did not have the same good response to a gluten-free diet. In addition to the honor, Joost Algera will receive a travel grant and free registration for the next NeuroGASTRO conference. His main supervisor is Hans Törnblom, and the co-supervisors are Magnus Simrén, Stine Störsrud and Lena Öhman.
