Erik Delsing Malmberg’s doctoral thesis was named Thesis of the Year by the Swedish Society for Pathology 2019. Since the association’s spring meeting was canceled last year, he has now presented the dissertation at this year’s spring meeting. In the dissertation, Erik Delsing Malmberg describes the development and application of a new method to measure small amounts of residual leukemia cells (MRD) in acute myeloid leukemia (AML), with a focus on patients who cannot be followed with conventional techniques. The method can contribute to improved prognosis for patients with AML. According to the motivation for the award, the thesis frame is a well-written and easy-to-read compilation of the rapidly growing hematopathological field MRD analysis at AML.
