AWARD. This year’s recipient of the Odonologen medal of honor is Kostas Bougas, a specialist dentist in periodontology and a teacher at the Dentist’s education clinic. He is described as a committed teacher, who creates curiosity in his specialist area.
The Odontologen Medal of Honor is awarded by the Odontological Education Council, which is the council within the Sahlgrenska Academy’s student union (SAKS) that monitors the education of dentists, dental hygienists and dental technicians. All students in these educational programs may nominate and motivate persons who should recieve the medal. The medal can go to a student, lecturer or clinic teacher. This year, the students nominated 23 people for the award.
In addition to commitment and the ability to arouse curiosity, the students also emphasize in their motivation that Kostas Bougas always ensures that the students feel that they receive the knowledge, and that the knowledge can also be applied in clinical activities.

Kostas Bougas thanks for the award in a letter:
“Because periodontology is a complex subject, the challenge has been to easily link the clinical findings to the disease mechanisms. I believe this is central to identifying and treating periodontitis. I want to believe that this award is proof that that goal has been met. Much remains to be done together to raise the level of treatment of patients with periodontitis.Thanks to my colleagues at the Adult Clinic who have contributed to a pleasant work environment and to my colleagues in the Department of Periodontology for the Stimulating Environment. Under normal circumstances, the medal is awarded at the Winter Gala organized by the students in the dental educations, but this year, due to the coronary restrictions, the distribution took place at the education clinic. The medal was awarded by Zahraa Nadjii, who is a member of the Odontological Education Council and a dental student in semester 10.
