Natrium construction site – May, 2021. The fourth floor is in place.

Natrium – new premises for the Faculty of Science

In Medicinarelängan

Inside, work is underway on both floors 1 and 2. The new floor plan has now taken shape and all contractors are in full swing with their installations.

At the construction site

The new building continues to rise. Building 1, to the left in the picture, has got the floor of the fourth floor in place.

During the month of May, another floor will be put in place.

Around the building, the backfilling work is completed. The ground levels are basically in place, however some detail work on surface layers and external equipment remain at the end of the project.

The cast-in-place retaining walls for the ramp down to the basement level will now be completed. The cables that have been mounted on the facade of Nya Forsken will now be moved down to the ground again.

Outside the construction site

Outside Medicinaregatan 7, the exterior is being prepared for the new entrance. The work area will be fenced in. Pay attention and respect the barriers for your own and others’ safety!

During the period, the renovation of the roof will also begin. Scaffolding and weather protection will cover the facade.

Sahlgrenska Life consists of three buildings, one on each side of Per Dubbsgatan and a third one to connect them.

Sahlgrenska Life – science and health care of the future

Sahlgrenska Life is an investment in future research and healthcare through collaboration

Bringing together research, healthcare and companies, increases the opportunities of a quicker translation of new research findings and innovations into concrete benefits for patients.

The area around Per Dubbsgatan is the unique location for connecting the partners’ operations.

The project consists of three buildings of approximately 73,000 sqm. GU will be present in all, but will lease approximately 10,000 sqm in building 2 and 3.

Sahlgrenska Academy’s internal preparations

The university’s ongoing program review for building 2 and 3 is led by a steering group, chaired by the dean. Heads of all institutes and Vice Deans for education and infrastructure participate. Students and doctoral students are also represented.

In addition, there are a number of reference groups. Together with Project Managers from the university’s unit for strategic projects of premises and program architects, the institutes are now outlining the premises based on their needs.

The Sahlgrenska Academy institutes that plan for new premises in building 2 or 3 are; Health and Care Sciences, Odontology, Clinical Sciences and Medicine. Also included is  the Biomedical Library.

There are also common reference groups. A group for training facilities has already started working. Later, reference groups will be added for translational research clusters and for skills centers for students.

The other parties proceed in their work

The detail plan process proceeds at the City of Gothenburg’s Byggnadsnämnd. Recently they closed the so-called examination phase. Read more on the City of Gothenburg’s
website.

Implementation planning/investment for building 1 was referred back to SU and Västfastigheter with a request to clarify operating costs and evacuation plan. The matter is scheduled to be taken up again by the Regional Board before the summer.
