Natrium – new premises for the Faculty of Science

Inside Medicinarelängan

The demolition work is finished inside.

Outside Medicinaregatan 7B, by the containers, earthworks will soon begin. This means that the entrance will be closed and the area will be fenced in. More information about this will be in the next newsletter.

On the construction site

The construction is now entering a new phase regarding part 1, on the left side of the picture. The prefabricated superstructure for the entrance floor has been completed and work continues on the third floor.

With the suprestructure in place, it is now safe to enter the basement and thus the work can be started up in the interior.

The facade surface is beginning to be visible.

During this period, work is being done on cast-in-place retaining walls in the form of a ramp between Natrium and Nya Forsken.

Outside the construction site

As more workers and occupational groups join the construction site, the work cabins have been expanded. More space is also being created regarding the restrictions on Covid-19.

Sahlgrenska Life – science and health care of the future

Sahlgrenska Life is an investment in future research and healthcare through collaboration

Bringing together research, healthcare and companies, increases the opportunities of a quicker translation of new research findings and innovations into concrete benefits for patients.

The area around Per Dubbsgatan is the unique position for connecting the partners’ operations.

The project consists of three buildings of approximately 73,000 sqm. GU will be present in all, but will lease approximately 10,000 sqm in building 2 and 3.

Sahlgrenska Academy’s internal preparations

Sahlgrenska Life consists of three buildings, one on each side of Per Dubbsgatan and a third one to connect them. (Click to enlarge image.)

The university’s ongoing program review for building 2 and 3 is led by a steering group, chaired by the dean. Heads of all institutes and deputy deans for education and infrastructure participate. Students and doctoral students are also represented.

In addition, there are a number of reference groups. Together with project managers from the university’s unit for strategic projects of premises and program architects, the institutes are now outlining the premises based on their needs.

The institutes of the  Sahlgrenska Academy’s that plan for new premises in building 2 or 3 are; Health and Care Sciences, Odontology, Clinical Sciences and Medicine. Also included is  the Biomedical Library. Odontology, which was previously a separate part of Sahlgrenska Life, are now planned in building 3 instead.

There are also common reference groups. A group for training facilities has already started working. Later, reference groups will be added for translational research clusters and for skills centers for students.

The other parties proceed in their work

The City of Gothenburg’s Byggnadsnämnd recently took another step towards a detailed plan by taking the project on to the so-called examination phase.
