REGION VÄSTRA GÖTALAND. On December 16, the Board of the Västra Götaland region decided to approve the Sahlgrenska Life concept. This means that the project is now progressing according to plan.
The goal of Sahlgrenska Life is to connect Sahlgrenska University Hospital with the University of Gothenburg’s operations on Medicinareberget. In order to realize the vision behind Sahlgrenska Life, new construction is necessary.
The project includes three new buildings and renovation of the premises for the institute of Odontology. They will house premises for highly specialized care, university medical care, university dental care, research, education and business. The project is run by the Västra Götaland region with the University of Gothenburg as an important partner.
On October 19, the board of the University of Gothenburg decided to support the project, and now the Board of the Västra Götaland has also decided to move forward.
“The decision simply means that the corporation is continuing and the project is progressing. At the university, internal assignments from the Vice-Chancellor linked to Sahlgrenska Life are currently underway. One part is about development of life science strategy, and another about elaborating on clearer prerequisites for the strategic project for premises”, says Pro-Vice-Chancellor Mattias Goksör.
In parallel with the respective decision-making processes of the University of Gothenburg and the Västra Götaland region, the City of Gothenburg is working on a detailed plan for the area, which is a prerequisite for the construction.
