Construction information Medicinareberget: reduced disturbing noise from the lower floor in Medicinarelängan

9 March, 2020

CONSTRUCTION INFORMATION. Akademiliv provides an overview of the construction project for new premises for the faculty of science and reconstruction work in Medicinarelängan and the Lundberg Laboratory. During the period, the structure-borne noise from work on floor 1000 in Medicinarelängan will cease, which means that disruptions for adjacent operations will be reduced. If you have any questions about the construction activities, feel free to email medicinareberget@gu.se.

WEEK 11, March 9 – 13.

Medicinaregatan 14 – replacement premises for parts of the Institute of Biomedicine

Due to the new construction for the Faculty of Science, preparations for replacement premises for parts of the Department of Biomedicine are ongoing. The former Akademiska Hus operating office will therefore be renovated during winter/spring of 2020.

The parking lot continues to be closed due to the construction related activities such as asphalting. The renovation is estimated to be ready beginning of April.

The blasting work on the fourth level continues in week 11.

In the previous week, blasting for a culvert between the pit for the new building and the EBM media central. In this week, the shafts are finalized with a minor impact blast in the area close to the media central. The other blast will take place in the center of the construction site.

The week is largely characterized by preparations for the blasting on level three and four of the remaining rock in the area close to Medicinarelängan.

As a means to avoid covering the windows completely before all staff have relocated, a plank made of wood completed with semi-transparent plastic cover attached to plank and roof above it, allowing some daylight to come through will be placed close to the facade.

The surface is cleared from soil and vegetation with caution, first by an excavator and thereafter with help from compressed air.

To allow vehicles to access the area, a ramp made of rocks is put in place.

The mapping made by the geologist engineer is an activity not causing any noise. it aims for investigating cracks and the condition of the rocks in general before taking approprate decisions regarding the coming drilling, re-inforcement and blasting.

The drilling that follows is however not free from noise but the drill rig is equipped by a silencer to minimize disturbances for those working nearby.

Blasting in week 11 will take place Tuesday and Thursday at 12.30 with reserve time at 15.00 on the same days.
