RESEARCH COMMUNICATIONS. Can you print cartilage cells so that they form a piece that can be used to rebuild an ear, for example? Yes, it looks promising, says Lars Kölby, a professor of plastic surgery at Sahlgrenska Academy. Together with researchers in biomaterials science at Chalmers, Lars tries to print body-specific materials, such as cartilage, fat and skin, which can be used in reconstructive plastic surgery and replace the artificial materials used today.
