SAHLGRENSKA LIFE. The report that summarized the brief for the Sahlgrenska Life project has been submitted by the project coordinating group to the client – the regional director of Västra Götaland Region and the vice-chancellor of the University of Gothenburg. The conclusions will now be analyzed before the project can enter the next phase.
During 2019, the Västra Götaland Region and the University of Gothenburg worked on a joint brief for Sahlgrenska Life, at the behest of the vice-chancellor of the University of Gothenburg and the regional director of Västra Götaland Region. The brief involved planning operational content, joint platforms and facilities.
It had three focuses: Building 1, Buildings 2 and 3, and the odontology building Odontologen. The coordination group coordinated the different programs and had representatives from the various stakeholders. The group had responsibility for the brief as a whole.
The University of Gothenburg has received the brief report, but faculty management at Sahlgrenska Academy has raised financial questions and concerns about operational needs.
The university also plans to clarify its overall strategy for Life Sciences in general. To this end, a study has been initiated by the vice-chancellor. This study will be complete in September 2020. Read more about the coming study at the University of Gothenburg via the link below.
A decision about the University of Gothenburg’s focus can be made no early than this autumn. At this time, no decision has been made about whether the project will move to the system stage. The Sahlgrenska Life project is currently in between the recently completed brief stage and the system stage. Normally in a building project, rental contracts between the property owner and tenants are signed once the system stage has been completed.
In February, the Regional Council’s Ownership Issues Sub-Committee will be informed on the brief and then Västra Götaland Region will wait for the University of Gothenburg before the process continues.
