ENVIRONMENTAL WORK. Nearly 4,000 square meters of solar panels generate 675,000 kilowatt hours of renewable electricity each year. Academic houses now install solar cells on nine buildings at Campus Medicinarberget.
“The fact that the University of Gothenburg’s facilities are increasingly being equipped with renewable energy sources such as solar cells is a very positive initiative from Akademiska Hus that benefits us all”, says Marie Smedbro, Head for the Division of Infrastructure Support at University of Gothenburg.
Akademiska Hus invest about SEK 10 million in the solar cell plants that are now set up on the roofs of the nine buildings on Campus Medicinarberget. Together, the solar cells will produce energy that is equivalent to what an electric car requires in order to travel 75 round-trips around the earth.
“In the University’s strategies for the provision of premises, we have stated that we, on our own and with others, are to work systematically to save energy and reduce environmental impact. This is a great example of how good collaboration with the property owner can provide environmental benefits for everyone, ”says Marie Smedbro.
Akademiska Hus has already installed solar cells at the School of Business, Economics and Law at University of Gothenburg, which generates a total of 25,000 kilowatt-hours of energy per year. The nine solar cell plants at Medicinareberget will be operational by the end of 2020.
