Information from Akademiska Hus about Naturvetenskap Life

17 June, 2019

Illustration over the area, marked yellow, where the outloading will take place during week 25-27.

Below is information related to the construction project Naturvetenskap Life. Thursday, July 4, both blasting times will have to be used – ie there will be a blast both at 12:30 and at 15:00.

Construction information during summer
An additional information email will reach the Institutes for further dissemination in week 27, and will then also be published on Akademiliv’s website. This information email will cover the entire summer’s work on the building site. After that, the emails with information från Akademiska Hus will take a break for summer, and will return in August.

CONSTRUCTION INFORMATION WEEK 25
June 17 – 21

  • Forging work will start at the EBM media centre. The main purpose is to establish a new entry to the roof of this building for maintenance of the cooling equipment located there. The previous staircase is blocking parts of the coming work for the Naturvetenskap Life project and therefore needs to be taken down. The new spiral staircase will be placed at the short side of EBM.
  • On the hill top, the outloading continues from level 2 (illustration below). The blasting alternates different parts of the area. The new image below describes where blasting will happen in weeks 25 to 27.
  • Blasting takes place according to the regular schedule, Tuesday and Thursday at 12.30.

CONSTRUCTION INFORMATION WEEK 26
June 24 – 28

  • As an additional reinforcement/safety measure more wooden barriers will be put up close to the facade of Nya Forsken (the building where Sahlgrenska Cancer Center and Krefting Research Center is located). They will be secured by wires held in place by metal loops attached to the rock. For that purpose drilling will be necessary. This drilling will cause noise, primarily on Monday in week 26.
  • The forging work at the EBM media centre continues and in this week the spiral staircase is completed. The remaining work will then be some adaptations on the roof along with dismantling of the existing staircase facing the hill.
  • Blasting takes place according to the regular schedule, Tuesday and Thursday at 12.30.

CONSTRUCTION INFORMATION WEEK 27
July 1 – 5

  • The work on the hill top continues like in the previous weeks.
  • The reinforcement work close to Nya Forsken (the building where Sahlgrenska Cancer Center and Krefting Research Center is located) is completed in this week.
  • The wooden barriers will be lifted in place by a crane and then attached to the rock as previously described.
  • In addition to the regular blasts, Tuesday and Thursday at 12.30, some larger boulders will be divided in smaller pieces at 15.00 on Thursday to enable outloading.

Blasting during the period week 25-27 will take place on level 2, in accordance to this illustration.

During the blasting events, the affected areas will be blocked off by guards and the warning signal will sound as shown below. Affected areas will also be indicated by information and contact details.
