Information from Akademiska Hus about Naturvetenskap Life – first blast postponed until Tuesday, Februari 19

8 February, 2019

CONSTRUCTION INFORMATION. Below is information related to the Naturvetenskap Life construction project. Information will be sent to affected employees every two weeks, and it will also be published in Akademiliv (Academy Life).

CONSTRUCTION INFORMATION, WEEK 7

During the week, we will unlock the shutdown along the slope towards the colony gardens. On the hill we have now established a long digger, which will focus on uncovering areas around the edges where the other excavator has not reached. Furthermore, we drill for pre-reinforcement and for the first blast. In the same area we will blow air to clear the rock from loose material, which is a time-consuming and physically stressful work that we will minimize, by using a brush on the excavator.

A change since last week’s news letter is that we have decided to postpone the first blast for a week. This is due to the fact that the preparatory work took a little longer than we first planned. The new time for the first blast is therefore Tuesday February 19, at 12.30. We will also move the fall protection (the orange fence that on some surfaces replace the previous fence). Romina, our rock consultant, is now seriously beginning to map the rock, thus studying its cracks. An important step for her and the blaster to be able to plan the blasting safely.

CONSTRUCTION INFORMATION, WEEK 8

This week it is time for the first blast. The first blast is made Tuesday February 19, at 12:30 with a spare time at 15:00, and the second blast is planned for Thursday at 12:30 with a reserve time at 15:00. We do both of these blasts on top of the hill, as was shown at the information meeting in January. As soon as the first blast is finished, we continue to prepare for the next one. We move loose material and drill, both for the blast and for pre-reinforcement of the rock cutting towards the future road.

CONSTRUCTION INFORMATION, WEEK 9

Tuesday this week it is time for the 3rd blast, also on top of the hill. On the other hand, the 4th and 5th blasts will be placed in an area below the EBM cooling center. The mountain is too high in this area to construct the road in its proper location, and therefore we plan to do this in-between, before we continue up the hill.
