CITATIONS. Four researchers from Sahlgrenska Academy are included in the 2018 list of the world’s most highly cited researchers. Kaj Blennow, Karl Swedberg and Henrik Zetterberg were all on the list last year, and this year they are also joined by Joakim Larsson.
This is the fifth year in a row that Clarivate Analytics, the analytical firm that owns the Web of Science, is publishing its list of the world’s top one percent of the most highly cited researchers, based on data from its reference and citation database.
This year, Clarivate Analytics includes another approx. 2000 researchers in the world that has been the most cited and influential ones over the past decade; not within a specific field but in many – thus a multidisciplinary category.
It is in this new category that Joakim Larsson, professor of environmental pharmacology and director of the Centre for Antibiotic Resistance Research (CARe), a multidisciplinary research center, has been added:
“Of course, citations are just one of the ways used to measure the influence that a researcher has,” Larsson notes. “I think it’s great that Clarivate now recognizes not only researchers who specialize in one area, but also takes into account contributions within various fields.”
He continues: “An interdisciplinary approach often leads to innovative research methods and is an important component in translating new knowledge into practical use.”
The other four researchers from University of Gothenburg on the list are:
Kaj Blennow, professor of clinical neurochemistry, and Henrik Zetterberg, professor of neurochemistry, who together head the research team on Neurochemical Pathogenesis and Diagnostics. The team has been recognized for its research on the diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.
Henrik Nilsson, associate professor of biology, conducts research on fungi from soil and water samples through DNA-based identification. The aim is to clarify which fungi are present in a specific area and how various fungal communities differ from one another.
Karl Swedberg, senior professor of medicine, well-known for his research on heart failure and heart attacks. Swedberg also works as a scientific adviser at the Centre for Person-Centered Care (GPCC), where he heads European standardization efforts promoting patient participation in person-centered care.
