MEDICNAREBERGET. The Vice-Chancellor has signed an agreement with Akademiska hus regarding the system document for the construction project Naturvetenskap Life. Thereby the project will enter the next step in the construction process.
The Faculty Board of the Faculty of Science decided to propose to the Vice-Chancellor to move forward with the project on June 14, and the Vice-Chancellor signed the agreement on June 18. The faculty board wants the building to be built as large as possible partly to accommodate other activities in accordance with the University Board’s decision to gather Life Science on Medicinareberget, and partly to make it as economically advantageous as possible. A smaller house adapted only for faculty’s needs would generate a rent per square meter that would be too high. The Faculty Board also decided on a maximum cost for the future rent.
Another reservation is that the faculty will have the opportunity to reduce its area without affecting the square meter price during the future project period. The Faculty Board also instructed the Steering Group for Naturvetenskap Life to actively work on reducing the area and increase the internal cooperation.
“Our departments need to take one step further in terms of concrete planning for the utilization of research facilities and equipment,” said Dean Elisabet Ahlberg, chairman of the steering committee.
Following the meeting of the faculty board, she was pleased with the decision.
“The proposal may be further processed, but in my opinion we have done as much as we have been able to. The members of the Steering and Program Groups have worked determinedly during the spring to get a decision before the summer and now we have succeeded. In the continued work on the system document, a closer cooperation with the Sahlgrenska Academy will be needed to increase cooperation in Life Science.
Important also for Sahlgrenska Academy
Eric Hanse, who is the Sahlgrenska Academy representative in the Steering Group for Naturvetenskap Life, also believes that the decision to proceed with the system document means that cooperation between the two faculties will be intensified at all levels.
“The decision is an important step towards a new building for the Faculty of Science and also very important for Sahlgrenska Academy, since it will speed up the process of our own needs for new research, education and animal research premises. As we are now one step closer to construction, it will be even more urgent to intensify efforts to try to minimize the impact of the construction itself on our business. A work that may be done in collaboration with the Faculty of Science.
