INTER-ACTION. During the election year 2018, health care and related education is expected to be a key issue. Recently, Sahlgrenska Academy was visited by the chair of the political party Sverigedemokraterna (The Swedish Democrats), who asked to come in order to get to know more about the challenges we face within the medical and nursing programs.
The University of Gothenburg’s basic principle of being open to the outside world means that parties that are democratically elected and who are part of the parliamentary system are welcome to visit the university.
“It is part of our collaborative task to tell us about our business for elected politicians. It is of course important that politicians and other social actors have a relevant picture of the challenges and opportunities available in education and research today and how our business contributes to social development”, Dean Agneta Holmäng stated during the visit.
Sverigedemokraterna visited the Sahlgrenska Academy on Tuesday, April 10. There were seven party representatives visiting the faculty, including party leader Jimmie Åkesson.
The visit began in the Academicum, where Dean Agneta Holmäng gave an overall presentation of the faculty. Agneta Ekman, chairman of the medical program committee, presented the medical program, and Carina Sparud Lundin described the training for midwifes, nurses and specialist nurses. The Student Union SAKS also participated in the meeting by answering questions from party representatives. The group also visited the Clinical Training Center (KTC), where head of department Lena Oxelmark gave a brief presentation of the skills training that the Sahlgrenska Academy provides students as a complement to the practical training conducted in collaboration with health care.
