Agneta Holmäng appointed dean – takes office at the turn of the year

21 December, 2017

MANAGEMENT. Vice-Chancellor Eva Wiberg has now officially decided to appoint Agneta Holmäng as the next Dean of Sahlgrenska Academy. Agneta Holmäng will take office on January 1, 2018. She will initially be supported by Eric Hanse, assigned as Acting Pro-Dean until a permanent Pro-Dean is appointed.

The Vice-Chancellor has decided to appoint Agneta Holmäng as Dean of Sahlgrenska Academy for the period of 2018–2023, with a follow-up after three years. She will take office on January 1st.

“It’s good that we finally have a new dean in place at Sahlgrenska Academy”, says Eva Wiberg.

The appointment is based on the outcome of the advisory election held at the faculty in November, an election with unusually high participation, and where 60 percent voted yes to her candidacy:

“I am very pleased and grateful for the great support that colleagues and co-workers gave me in the election,” Agneta Holmäng comments the election result.

When she has taken up her new assignment as Dean, Agneta will visit the various sections of Sahlgrenska Academy, to meet teachers, researchers, management teams and institute councils at the institutes, to get opinions about what reforms are needed to promote education and research. One of the issues of most importance to her, is the construction planning, and especially for the building planned for the Faculty of Science on Medicinareberget:

“We are keen on a good collaboration with the Faculty of Science, but we have to find a solution that does not interfere with the research and education of Sahlgrenska Academy, and that also provides opportunities for the necessary expansion of our activities.”

Another important area that Agneta emphasizes, is staffing planning and promotion to ensure that Sahlgrenska Academy has teaching capabilities both in research and teaching of different subjects. The Sahlgrenska Academy management and Heads of Institutes will have a meeting on this in January.

The Nominating Committee has initiated their work on preparing the advisory elections for the appointment of Pro-Dean. Today, after appointing Agneta Holmäng as Dean of Sahlgrenska Academy, the Vice-Chancellor also gave the assignment of Acting Pro-Dean to former Acting Dean Eric Hanse. He will have this assignment until a new Pro-Dean is assigned, but no longer than end of July 2018.

Akademiliv will return with more information about the election process for a new Pro-dean.
