SPORT. At work, Karin Schön is a research laboratory analyst at the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, but privately she is a strong long-distance runner. She recently made a new Swedish marathon record in the class K55 at the Gothenburg Marathon.
This year’s edition of the Gothenburg Marathon was run in early October with just over 300 finishers. The course takes in two laps, starting from Slottsskogsvallen, down along Säröleden, south bound.
Karin Schön impressed with his finishing time 3.03.04, which was a new Swedish record in the class K55.
“It feels good to have both made the Swedish record for K55 and, in addition, as a bonus, I won the whole race,” says Karin.
Karin’s new time was one minute and seventeen seconds faster than the previous record holder’s, Evy Palm.
“Evy Palm is a great role model for me and has inspired me very much, so it feels a bit special. In fact, I actually broke her half marathon K55 record this spring at Göteborgsvarvet, so it’s been a good year for my part”, says Karin, who also took gold in the Veteran K55 during the European championship in both marathon and half-marathon this summer.
