On June 16, the University of Gothenburg signed a planning agreement with Akademiska hus for a new house for life sciences at Medicinareberget. This means that a programme document will be developed that clarifies the needs and the implementation of the project.
The work is conducted from the Real Estate and Service Unit in collaboration with Akademiska hus. The University’s internal work is organized in several working groups, for example teaching and study environments, laboratory facilities, administrative premises and special facilities for the different departments such as phytotron, imaging mass spectrometry and animal facility. The programme document will be completed in December.
The steering committee for the project had its first meeting on June 28. It was decided, that the work name of the project should be Naturvetenskap Life.

Background
In June 2016, the University Board instructed the Vice-Chancellor to investigate the possibilities for co-location of life sciences at the university. As part of this, a preliminary study, was conducted during the winter and spring, that examined the prerequisites for a new building for life science at Medicinareberget. The building’s intended location is on the eastern slope of Medicinareberget, next to Medicinarelängan.
The three departments at the Faculty of Science that wish to gather at Medicinareberget are:
- Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences
- Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology
- Department of Marine Sciences
