The University Library’s digital journals, databases and books soon require an x-account

10 March, 2017

RESEARCH RESOURCES. Today, those who are outside the university network uses their library card number and personal identification number to access the University Library’s e-resources, i.e. digital journals, databases and books. As of April 1, an x-account will be needed to access e-resources. Turn to the institution where you have your affilliation if you need an x-account.

From April, 1 remote access to the university library’s e-resources will be provided via the University’s SSO login (Single Sign On), which is the login currently used for the Staff Portal (x-account / gus account).

Starting April 1 researchers and students without a GU account needs to turn to the institution where they are affiliated to ask permission from authorization manager or instructors to get a GU account that can be used to login and remotely access the library’s information resources. Affected are for example researching emeriti, former library staff, health care staff with affilliations to research and participants in contracted education.

An application form for external research account is available in the Staff portal (medarbetarportalen). Instructors will be able to choose to turn to the Service Centers for help arranging accounts to external students participating in contracted education.

Public University Library users will not be affected. They have never been able to log in remotely for distance access and will for some time continue to make use of the library card number and personal ID for logging on the public computers.
