ELECTION OF NEW DEAN. The advisory group is currently conducting interviews with candidates to find a new dean for the Sahlgrenska Academy. It has not yet been decided when the election will be held, but it is hoped that the advisory group will be able to present its suggestions for a dean and deputy dean, who together will be expected to lead our faculty, in the first few months of next year.
The management of the Sahlgrenska Academy faculty have tasked the advisory group with drawing up suggestions for a new dean and deputy dean, and to work together with rector Pam Fredman to do so.
“We have a very strong working relationship with the rector. The entire advisory group has met her, we have an ongoing dialogue with her and inform her what the next step of our work will be,” says Göran Stenman, chairman of the advisory group.
The advisory group is tasked with coming up with one suggestion for a candidate for the position of dean and one suggestion for a candidate for the position of deputy dean. Once an advisory vote has taken place within the faculty, it will be the university’s rector who formally appoints the two new leaders.
An ongoing process
Up to now, a total of 17 people have been put forward as potential candidates for the positions of dean and deputy dean. There are both internal and external candidates among these 17 people. The candidates include individuals nominated by employees and individuals that the advisory group itself has brought into the equation. Around 40 nomination letters have been received by the advisory group, a proportion of which came from multiple senders, with the same candidate nominated more than once.
“Eight of the 17 candidates have been interviewed so far, so the process remains ongoing,” says Göran Stenman, before adding:
“Appointing a dean and a deputy dean is one of the most important things we do at the faculty, as the candidates we propose will be expected to lead our operations for the next six years. We are working as fast as we can, but the process will inevitably take time.”
The advisory group met around 15 times during the summer and autumn:
“We are having productive group discussions. A recurring problem has, however, been finding meeting times when all of the members of the group are able to meet,” Stenman points out.
