INTERNATIONALIZATION. Sahlgrenska Academy is now launching its Sahlgrenska Visiting Professorship program. This program is aimed at internationally highly regarded researchers and is intended to attract them as visiting professors to our faculty.
The Academy’s faculty board has decided to make a strategic investment in the visiting professor program, which will run for five years. During this time a number of positions will be advertised depending on the extent of the recruitments. The positions will be announced during 2017 and during 2019.
“The program is very ambitious, which I think will require us to actively recruit. When a research group has been granted funds for a visiting professorship, the nominated candidates are assessed according to existing procedures and the assessment criteria for the specific position,” says Gunnar Tobin, International Director at Sahlgrenska Academy.
Tobin feels that collaboration with other departments is important for a university’s vitality and development.
“Besides the stimulation that a visiting researchers can offer groups at Sahlgrenska Academy, a period at our faculty can provide insights into the research opportunities available here, which in turn can help to attract talented researchers in various international research fronts to seek positions at the faculty.
So that every department has the chance to recruit visiting professors within the program, there are no fixed rules about how long the visiting professors will stay or the size of the position. A basic guideline is that the position should be between 10 and 30 percent over a period of between one and three years. Departments can also partially finance a visiting professor if they want to expand the scope of the position to get more out of the professorship.
