AWARD. Jonas Hugosson, Professor of Urology, is one of four recipients of the 2016 Nordic Medical Prize. This year’s prize is awarded for research on breast cancer and prostate cancer. Jonas Hugosson will receive the award for his fundamental and internationally publicized prostate cancer screening studies.

The 2016 Nordic Medical Prize for research on breast cancer is being awarded to researchers Heikki Joensuu, University of Helsinki, and Lisa Rydén, Lund University. In addition to Jonas Hugosson, the 2016 Nordic Medical Prize for research on prostate cancer is being awarded to Henrik Grönberg at Karolinska Institutet. The four recipients are receiving the award for their “internationally leading research that has created a comprehensive and important scientific basis for diagnostics and treatment of breast cancer and prostate cancer.”
The Nordic Medical Prize, which is presented by the Nordic Medical Prize Foundation in partnership with Folksam, is one of the Nordic region’s largest prizes and is awarded annually. The prize money of SEK 1 million, which will be shared by the four award recipients this year, is awarded for “particularly outstanding scientific achievements” in highly significant fields for human health and disease. The award recipients are selected after an extensive nomination process in which the medical faculties at Nordic universities are invited to nominate prizewinners.
The Nordic Medical Prize will be presented on February 2, 2017 at Folksam’s offices in Stockholm.
