EDUCATION. GU Online is an annual mini-conference on internet-based tools in higher education. The target group is university staff. GU Online 2016 will take place on 17 November. The theme: Flip, stream and develop – with focus on the student.
GU Online 2016 will take place at Pedagogen, Västra Hamngatan 25. The conference language is Swedish, but these two presentations will be held in English:
- The Case Study Approach as a Student Centered Pedagogy
Case studies can be used to create engaging content for students in many fields. Studying specific examples which then can be generalised encourages students to apply their knowledge to multiple problems, interests them in the real-world applications of their subject, and facilitates learning. Anne Farewell (Department of Chemistry & Molecular Biology) presents examples of how case studies can be used in both traditional and flipped classrooms. - Experiences from starting and developing a net-based distance course
Shruti Taneja Johansson (Department of Education and Special Education) presents her experiences from starting and developing a net-based distance course. The course includes the use of learning management system GUL and online meeting tool Adobe Connect. She also makes comparisons to traditional distance courses.
This presentation will be held partly in English, partly in Swedish:
- University-wide resources for academic writing: Navigating and utilizing web-based materials for students, teachers, and staff
The unit for Academic Language (ASK) is launching a new website and series of GUL activities to create an informative and interactive web presence, including tutorials and other materials for self-study supporting academic writing and language development. Åsa Jonsén and Gregory Soulliere present an overview of the resources and suggest means to best utilize their capabilities.
