EDUCATION. On September 22, a second Academy-wide day will be held for first year students in undergraduate programs. The theme for the day is human rights and the right to health. In addition to gaining a basic understanding of human rights and the right to health, the purpose is for our students to become aware of and interact with students in other professions.
“The first Academy-wide day, held at the beginning of last semester, was well received,” says Lena Oxelmark, who is chair of the committee for inter-professional learning at Sahlgrenska Academy. She notes that human rights are an imperative and important topic in health and medical care, and a subject that interests Sahlgrenska Academy students. “I expect that it will be an exciting, interesting, and fun day. At our last day we witnessed incredible enthusiasm from students, group leaders and lecturers.”
The format is the same as last time, with lectures in the morning at Draken and group discussions and exercises in the afternoon. Invited speakers include Professor Yakin Erturk from Turkey, a former UN special observer 2003 to 2009.
All undergraduate programs are participating, except medical physics.
“This time we have a larger number of students from more university programs. That the students have the opportunity to meet even more students will increase inter-professional learning, and they will develop more contacts and a significantly broader perspective. We will have more group leaders and more groups with students. This makes it a major organizational and logistic challenge,” Lena notes.
The following programs will participate in the Academy-wide day in the autumn 2016: Pharmacy, Biomedical Laboratory Science, Dietitian, Public Health Science, Speech Therapy, Medicine, Diagnostic Radiology Nursing, Nursing, Dental Hygiene, Dentistry, and Dental Technician.
The Academy-wide day is organized by the IPL Committee at Sahlgrenska Academy. Birgit Reizer and Elisabet Lönnermark are providing administrative support.
