GRANTS. Fund against prostate cancer distributes in total SEK 2.6 million to four prominent Swedish researchers in prostate cancer research. Three of these researchers are linked to the Sahlgrenska Academy’s Institute of Clinical Sciences.
Jonas Hugosson receives SEK 640 000 for research on weather mpMRT and targeted biopsies can provide more accurate diagnosis and treatment decisions, Andreas Josefsson receives SEK 703 000 for research to identify biomarkers for optimized screening. It is the second year that Andreas receives a grant funds from the Fund against prostate cancer. Karin Welén receive 550 000 SEK research on the characterization of kastrationsresisent prostate cancer via circulating tumor cells.
This is the third time Karin Welén receives a grant from the foundation, and these funds means a lot to her, she says: “This project is a continuation of the previously funded research and the goal is to examine how tumor cells in castration-resistant prostate cancer change of hormone therapy and hopefully be able to identify targets for new therapies and prognostic markers.”
Sten Nilsson at Radiumhemmet also receives a grant, SEK 609,000 for research on the importance of local radicalism at curative radiotherapy for locally advanced prostate cancer.
“It’s great to be able to distribute grants to Swedish prostate cancer research and provide the opportunity to more scientists to find new methods for better diagnosis and treatment. It is thanks to generous donations from private individuals and companies we are able to do it”, says Calle Waller, president of Prostate Cancer Research Association.
