INTERACTION. At present, about 60 million people are refugees. In order to handle the present situation and find sustainable ways forward, there is a great need for research and education. The University of Gothenburg has made a website to show how the University can contribute.
Education is of crucial importance to both the individual and the future of war-torn nations. Research generates new knowledge, which needs to be disseminated and put to practical use in various ways.
At the website Refugees authorities, organisations, other higher education institutions, policy makers, media and the public get an overview of competence, activities and contact information at the University of Gothenburg. Here are also a list of researchers that can contribute with knowledge in different occasions and links to publications about for example migration, segregation and asylum. There is also information about how the employees at the University of Gothenburg contribute with their knowledge in public debate.
– The University of Gothenburg has a responsibility to safeguard values such as academic freedom, humanism and human rights. We have a responsibility to contribute with our knowledge as an education provider and as a research institution, but also as an employer, says Pro-Vice-Chancellor Helena Lindholm.
At the website there is information about the 100 internships that the University now offers newly arrived with a refugee background. There are overall information and links for those who had to flee from their studies, for those who are thinking about studying, or need supplementary education. The University also informs about their work with protecting threatened scholars.
At the website Refugees there is also information about student involvement, for example students that give legal aid or education in Swedish for newly become mothers, or students that have initiated cross-boundary projects to improve the way that refugees are welcomed and included in Gothenburg.
