BOOK TREASURE. Discover the book collection about fruit from the Biomedical Library Dahl Collection. Pomology is the name of a new exhibition at the University Library of Humanities that premieres on December 7.
Do you enjoy beautiful bindings and image illustrations of fruit? If so, you will love the new exhibition of pomology at the University Library of Humanities. It shows a small selection of books, magazines and brochures from the Dahl Collection, which is Biomedical Library’s special collection in pomology.
“The Dahl Collection includes about 110 meters of shelves literature on pomology, horticulture and landscaping. It is a marvelous image material containing brochures and prints to real classics of pomology”, says Ingrid Skoglund at the Biomedical Library, who is one of those responsible for the exhibition at the University Library of Humanities.
Pomology is the science or knowledge of tree fruits developed through cultivation. It mainly concerns the description of the apples and pears, but pomology include all cultivated fruit and berry varieties. The man behind the collection is Carl Georg Valdemar Dahl (1875-1959), a Swedish professor, gardener and one of Sweden’s most famous pomologists. The publications cover the years 1538 – about 1960. Beautiful book illustrations are abound!
