JoVE recreates sophisticated lab experiments

12 November, 2015

NEW RESEARCH RESOURCE. The Biomedical Library is now complementing its investment on protocol for experimental research with a new topic collection of JoVE: JoVE Developmental Biology. The resource includes methods used for studying the biological development in vitro and in vivo from the molecule to the cell and whole organism.

Earlier this year the Biomedical Library invested in several other subject collections of JoVE. Frederick Good, librarian at the Biomedical Library tells us about the new collection:

Who benefits from this?
Protocols are often indispensable for researchers in experimental environments. If you work with, for example, re-creating sophisticated laboratory techniques in subjects such as neuroscience, biology and medicine, then JoVE is a really exciting resource.

What is cool about this resource?
It saves both time and labor. It becomes easier to reproduce the experiment, you do not need to travel to other labs to learn the details. But also the format. In JoVE you follow the work of advanced experiments in video demonstrations, step-by-step. Methods, data analysis and results are reported clearly and in detail.

How should this resource be used?
Jove video experiments are easy to follow. Just search terms that are near your research, or test the institution or the name of someone who is behind the experiment to get started.

What feedback have you received in JoVE?
We have been told by scientist at GU that it is valuable in education and that the video format makes it easier to get to advanced techniques. But there are also sustainable and economic gains in being able to take part in the experiments from home. It’s rare that we get so many requests from different institutes on the same resource. And we also note taht JoVE is already is in good use, even if it is fairly new.

If you can not find the material in JoVE, search in other lab protocols at the Sahlgrenska Academy:
