Sahlgrenska Academy reported a deficit of SEK 8 million for 2014. Core Facilities was able to make ends meet, but the Institute of Medicine has some financial problems.
Appropriations from large research financiers increased last year. Financial manager Kristina Johansson reports that first-cycle programs operated in the black, which is encouraging news. However, the Audiology Program operated at a loss.
Surplus for Core Facilities
Core Facilities reported a surplus of SEK 1.3 million, substantially better than anticipated, for 2014. The reasons for the surplus are that sales revenues rose, the Faculty of Science paid SEK 1 million for basic financing of animal experiments, and the faculty appropriated funds to cover certain depreciation costs related to the President’s infrastructure initiative.
Visiting researcher program ending
The deficit at the Institute of Medicine was due to lower faculty appropriations and government cutbacks on first-cycle places, thereby reducing appropriations. One response by the institute was to start relying on its own staff for teaching purposes more than had previously been the case. The institute will terminate its visiting researcher program and, in the wake of the cutbacks by the faculty, will no longer hire staff financed by appropriations.
