Göran Bondjers has been appointed honorary professor at the School of Public Health, University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. The appointment is based on his professional status in the university world internationally, and the expertise he will bring to them within the field of graduate educational programs.
“Teaching does not usually provide this kind of recognition, so in that way, this is very appealing,” comments Göran Bondjers.
For the past several years, Goran Bondjers has been engaged in developing a postgraduate educational program for seven different African countries, in which the University of Witwatersrand participates. The appointment is a recognition for his efforts and contributions, and also something that in purely practical terms will facilitate his continued work on the project, which is known as CARTA – Consortium for Advanced Research Training in Africa.
“We will continue to work towards the situation where one is able to obtain resources in order to conduct research themselves. Many of those who have obtained a graduate education move to the countries in the Global North, and that’s a real problem. The researchers who remain behind are too few in number in order that the research will be sufficiently productive,” remarks Göran Bondjers.
