To arrange a symposium, a conference or a congress at home can involve a lot of work, but there is plenty of help at hand. Arrangements may be of great importance, both for individual researchers and for the research city Gothenburg.
– Gothenburg definitely has the opportunity to host the multi-disciplinary meetings, both minor and major ones. The only thing we might not have the capacity for are the big World Congresses, says dean Olle Larkö , who argue that scientists have a responsibility to arrange meetings .
– It is part of the extension role, and it’s part of our mission to spread awareness in the society.
Olle Larkö was himself president for one of the largest conferences in Gothenburg: European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology , which attracted 8,000 participants four years ago .
– As president the job was not as demanding, but it meant a lot of travel. My colleague John Paoli was the local organizer and did a fantastic job with all the practical work.
