The Sweden Medical Forum life science conference was held on March 7 at the Swedish Embassy in Tokyo. The conference was initiated by the Sahlgrenska Academy’s Professor Björn Rydevik and Fukushima Medical University’s Professor Shinichi Kikuchi.

The theme for the conference was cooperation between Japan and Sweden within the field of regenerative and reconstructive medicine, and the opportunities this brings for academia and industry. The aim was to bring together Swedish and Japanese researchers and businesses. It was arranged by Business Sweden, and involved 14 speakers and 80 participants from major Japanese pharmaceutical companies. A further 150 participants took part via a live stream.
The forum was opened by Sweden’s ambassador in Japan, Lars Vargö.
The speakers included Professor Björn Rydevik, who in addition to the talk below also gave a presentation on osseointegrated prostheses, Ola Rolfson MD, who spoke about the Swedish Hip Arthroplasty Register, and Docent Anders Palmquist, who presented BIOMATCELL and gave a talk on osseointegration.
