The University of Gothenburg’s Biomedical Library has purchased two high-quality databases that are expected to prove very useful to both health sciences instructors and researchers alike. To familiarize as many staff as possible with the opportunities these new resources provide, the library is organizing an introductory seminar on February 19.
These new tools are not traditional text-based databases, but instead contain videos and displays data graphically. The first database, called Henry Stewart Talks, contains a large collection of presentations in which some of the world’s leading researchers discuss their latest findings. The second is called Primal Pictures and contains a highly accurate 3D model of the human anatomy.
“Both of these databases are wonderful tools that can elevate teaching to the next level. Primal Pictures, in particular, is very useful for teaching. I know that there are teachers who also use Henry Stewart Talks in their classes, but these are very high-level lectures and are best suited to graduate-level studies,” explains Fredrik Good, librarian at the Biomedical Library.
The library has invited two speakers from the UK to introduce the new databases on Wednesday February 19. At 8:30 AM, Beth Cohen from the Biomedical & Life Sciences Collection will lecture on how to use the Henry Stewart Talks database, and at 10:30 AM, Michael Fanning from Ovid will present the Primal Pictures software. The seminar will be held in the Arvid Carlsson auditorium.
