Timothy A Chan, leading scientist in the field of cancer genomics, came from New York to give a lecture at Sahlgrenska Academy Seminars in Dec 2013. Timothy A Chan works at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) situated at Manhattan. The Chan laboratory specializes in using genomic analysis to characterize the role of tumor suppressor genes in oncogenesis. The lab has a special interest in deciphering the genetic mechanisms underlying brain tumors, colon cancer, and breast cancer.
Dr. Chan received an MD and a PhD in genetics at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and has completed a residency in Radiation Oncology and a fellowship in cancer genomics and epigenomics.
Göran Stenman’s research group focus on the biology of human translocation-associated carcinomas and sarcomas. These tumor types are particularly interesting because in contrast to other solid tumors, their fusion genes are directly involved in tumor pathogenesis.
The next seminar will be held in March when Magnus Simrén is the host and lecturer will be Douglas Drossman. Earlier this year, the first lecturer was Ormond Mac Dougald, University of Michigan, who talked about bone and adipose tissue.
