Research financier FAS is renamed from July 1st. The new name is Forte – Council for health, labor and welfare.
The government decided earlier this year that FAS Council for Working Life and Social Research, will change its name to the Council for health, labor and welfare. FAS was given the task of producing a short name. It was Forte. The amendment applies from July 1st this year.
The government proposed the new name in Research and Innovation Bill 2012/13: 30, on the grounds that it better reflects the ERC’s mission to fund research in specific areas of health, labor and welfare.
“With the name Forte, we want to highlight the strength that we can contribute to the research community by funding the best research, providing better conditions for individual and societal opportunities and development”, says Erland Hjelmquist, Secretary General at Forte.
FAS has since 2001 received increasing research funding to be allotted in the latest research and innovation bill also expanded mission. The new contract means that the FAS with further additions to the budget will also fund nursing research.
