With a new grant leading international researchers are to be attracted to Sweden. The grant is for SEK 5-15 million over 7-10 year per recruitment. Overall The Swedish Research Council announces SEK 150 million in 2013 in this call – which will be implemented next year.
The researchers who are eligible for recruitment must be internationally recognized and leaders in their field of research. Applicants are the vice chancellors at Swedish universities who submit nominations of candidates for the Swedish Research Council. After that the Swedish Research Council assess whether the proposed researchers’ credentials are sufficient to justify the aid.
– My hope is that this will give the institutions new opportunities to provide a home to highly qualified international researchers. And these can help create successful environments and encourage both established colleagues as researchers at the beginning of his career, says Director General of the Swedish Research Council Mille Millnert.
– We also hope that the universities in their applications aim to recruit both men and women.
The focus on international recruitment of eminent researchers is a mandated by the government.
