VR focusing on infection and antibiotics, aging and health
In addition to the usual open project grants the Swedish Research Council also announces support within specific areas. This year, within medicine and health, the Council support research in the areas of infection and antibiotics, as well as aging and health.
The fields are described briefly below. More detailed descriptions of the focus areas will be in the call text of each call.
Infection and antibiotics
Research Council will this year launch SEK 40 million for research on infection and antibiotics. In the open call that opens in mid-February Contribution to employment as a researcher at half-time in a clinical setting will be announced (two positions in infection and antibiotics will be granted). Later this year, framework grants and graduate school will be announced in this area.
Research in the area of infection and antibiotics include basic as well as clinical research in areas such as immunology, microbiology, and nursing and public health research. Examples of important research areas are studies of the molecular mechanisms of bacterial infection, the development of new antibacterial drugs and new effective diagnostic methods, mechanisms of resistance, nosocomial infections, prevention, including vaccines and other preventative measures, how antibiotics are translated into human and animal health economics and the effects of distribution of antibiotics to the external environment.
Ageing and health
This year, SEK 25 million will be announced for research in aging and health. Within The Swedish Research Council’s Open Call, Contribution to employment as a researcher at half-time in a clinical environment in the area will be announced (employment will be granted). The Swedsih Research Council also co-finances an ongoing call in EU cooperation Joint Programme Neurodegenerative Disease Research (JPND) with a focus on aging and health, the application deadline is March 19th. Later this year, support for the framework grants and postgraduate schools can be sought in the area of aging and health.
Research in this area is of great value when we are facing a huge demographic challenge to adapt society to an aging population. The Swedish Research Council support regards relevant areas of medical research, including health research, dental and medical and technical research.
The Open Call 2013, which includes project grants in all disciplines, will open in mid-February 2013. Deadline for applications in medicine and health Thursday April 4th, 2013.
