Young cancer researcher receives Assar Gabrielsson award for ground-breaking work on public health

AWARD. Volvo’s founder took the initiative to start up a foundation that supports young cancer researchers. The foundation is still very active and on Wednesday May 6 it is time to present the annual Assar Gabrielsson Award to someone who has written an excellent thesis on cancer research. The 2015 award-winner is Volkan Sayin, and he receives the award for his ground-breaking discoveries about the risks of over-consumption of anti-oxidants.

Assar Gabrielsson Award for research that may provide better treatment of glandular cancer

The 2014 Assar Gabrielsson Award is presented to Doctor of Medicine Marta Persson for her research into how normal cells can turn into cancer cells. By combining basic cancer research with clinical information, the results can boost the development of better treatment for patients with salivary gland tumours. Assar Gabrielsson Award for increased knowledge of correlation between immune system and cancer

The Assar Gabrielsson award for 2013 will be presented to Johan Aurelius for his research into the correlation between the body’s immune system and cancer. In his studies, Johan Aurelius has shown that treatment stimulating white blood cells can reduce the risk of relapse in leukemia – blood cancer. For the results of his research, Johan Aurelius will receive the Assar Gabrielsson award and SEK 50,000.
